About Petersen Angus

Our ranch is located in the small mountain town of Cokeville, Wyoming which has been the home of our family for several generations. My family formerly operated 1200 head of commercial Angus base cattle and worked to breed hardy, easy-doing cattle. Building a small herd of Registered Angus Cattle has been my dream ever since I was a young boy, but the reality of purchasing a place as well as cattle seemed like an impossible feat..No matter what others thought, I was determined to find a way.

While attending school at Utah State University, I was in need of a little extra money to help pay for my remaining two semesters of my Business Finance degree. The opportunity arose to venture up to North Dakota and work at what was initially planned as a short term summer job. Through many long hours and much deliberation, I decided that this may be the opportunity I needed to help me gather the necessary funds to purchase the ranch of my dreams. I shortly thereafter started my own business and began saving for my ranch.

One year later into the new business, the opportunity arose for my new wife and I to purchase a small 1200 acre ranch situated in my home town of Cokeville. We began by purchasing 11 young bred heifers our first year and leasing the remaining pasture to a local rancher. We continued to buy commercial cows for a couple more years and eventually the challenge of operating a business 13 hours away drew us back closer to the ranch. We diffused our North Dakota business and accepted a job located in Pinedale Wyoming, two hours from Cokeville.

Most recently we have been utilizing the most up-to-date technology to help us establish a good foundation registered herd. Our first batch of embryo calves carried by our commercial cows were out of well know sires such as EXT, Traveler 6807, Final Product and Hoover Dam just to name a few. We have purchased a handful of high end cattle that we plan to flush for embryos which will then be carried in our growing commercial herd.

Our ultimate goal is not to simply chase the numbers, but create a set of cattle that can survive the harsh environment of Wyoming with very few inputs. Through strict culling, careful planning and use of cutting edge technology we hope to create genetically superior cattle that will set us apart.
